Guide Right
A positive force in the community
Guide Right is a program for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Its reach extends to high schools and colleges alike.
Conceived in 1922 by Leon W. Stewart, and suggested at the twelfth Grand Chapter Conclave, Guide Right became the Fraternity's National Service Program.
I. Objective
The Fredericksburg (VA) Alumni Chapter is looking for opportunities to support and implement dynamic educational programs executed under the Guide Right national fraternity project. Our chapters programs will be geared towards developing young mens self-worth, leadership skills,
academic accomplishments and in the Kappa tradition overall achievement.
II. Organizational Model
Our Guide Right program will take a 3 tiered approach to serving our community:
1. Tutoring Mentoring Program at James Monroe: (ACADEMIC)
As we develop and work on expanding the Guide Right program, this will initially serve as the foundation of our program. In addition to giving Kappa a community presence, as well as promoting Guide Rights commitment to fostering scholastic development, this program will allow Fredericksburg Alumni to make contacts with academic official in the local community and provide continuous ranks of young men to join our Guide Right program.
2. Education For Life (CAREER/LEADERSHIP TRAINING)
Because our organization has a legacy of achievement, it is critical that we expose the young men of the Guide Right program to achievers both in our community and in our fraternity. While all too often youth especially in minority communities value athletic accomplishment, I believe its necessary to show young men professionals of color who can present a successful role model outside the athletic and entertainment sphere. In addition to the outstanding professionals of the Fredericksburg Alumni Chapter, we will reach out to Kappas in the Eastern Province who may be
interested in speaking to our young men.
Likewise, in providing a comprehensive education for life, it is critical that we provide skills and training that are essential to success as they gear up for adulthood (financial literacy, college preparatory activities, resume writing, professional dress, etiquette, public speaking, etc.) In that vein, I aim for our Guide Right to provide this training via issue forums, tutorials and informational seminars that enable students to adopt these skills.
3. Social Activities (SOCIAL)
In addition to the aforementioned pieces of the Guide Right program, we will have social activities for this years program, done on a quarterly basis. They are as follow (tentative):
Achievement in Every Field of Humen Endeavor
